Do you want to be blessed?

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Every blessing comes from the source of all life, beauty, and goodness, but too often, we seek after good things from intermediate sources instead of seeking the ultimate source of everything.

Let's say you want to buy some pencils and paper. You would probably go to the store and pick the ones you like without thinking about the process of making these products or where the materials came from.

You will get what you want, but you must rely on a line of people who put the product together for you.

This is what religion does. You have to go through rituals, ceremonies, people, chants, offering incense at the temple, etc. to get the blessing you want.

All these intermediaries must go to the source for you, but if they have the wrong source, it's like they're trying to use grass to make your pencil and paper instead of using the true source, wood.

If you want to be blessed, then you have to know the source.

Colossians 1:15 Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Jesus is the Son of God who lived a perfect life yet died a sinner's death on the cross at the hands of sinners. You probably heard that before, but do you know how it’s related to your blessing?

Jesus didn’t die for His own sins, but for the sins of those who crucified Him and even the world.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

How does God forgive sins? It used to be an animal sacrifice which would bear your sins and pay the price of death for you so that you could live.

Leviticus 4:14 When the sin, which they have sinned against it, is known, then the congregation shall offer a young bullock for the sin, and bring him before the tabernacle of the congregation. 15 And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands upon the head of the bullock before the Lord: and the bullock shall be killed before the Lord. 16 And the priest that is anointed shall bring of the bullock's blood to the tabernacle of the congregation: 17 And the priest shall dip his finger in some of the blood, and sprinkle it seven times before the Lord, even before the vail.

Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For God hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.

We gave Jesus our sins and curses and He blessed us with His own righteousness and Sonship.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

If you want to be blessed, you must go to the source. Repent of your sins (and be baptized), believe in Jesus, receive the Holy Spirit, become a child of God and obey His words and you will be blessed, as it is written:

Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
