People can be transformed today in the same way as the early disciples of Jesus were.
One of the proofs to the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the transformation of the disciples before and after seeing Jesus raised from the dead.
Before Jesus was crucified, the disciples were marked in the gospels as slow of hearing and lacking faith.
They made mistakes and often did the opposite of what they should do.
After the resurrection of Jesus, something happened to these disciples, transforming them into miracle workers, boldly proclaiming the gospel and for men everywhere to repent and believe in Jesus.
The resurrection of Jesus was a key event in this transformation, but it wasn't the key event.
Even after the disciples saw Jesus after his resurrection for forty days, they still didn't go out to preach or do any great works.
In fact, they were told by Jesus to stay in Jerusalem and wait.
This is in stark contrast to what we read in the gospel accounts where Jesus sends out the disciples two by two to do all the things he did.
The disciples were trained by Jesus to follow in his steps and do everything he did.
In fact, the disciples did preach, heal the sick, and cast out demons.
But the character and faith of the disciples were still lacking.
So after three years of training under Jesus, they still weren't looking like him.
You might think that being trained under Jesus for three years would totally transform you from the inside out, but that's not what did it for the disciples.
Jesus told them to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father.
It wasn't until fifty days after the crucifixion of Jesus that the disciples received the promise of the Holy Spirit waiting in the upper room.
The Holy Spirit came with power and the disciples were filled to overflowing as evidenced by them telling the mighty works of God in previously unlearned languages.
After this point, the disciples preached with boldness for men everywhere to repent, submitted themselves to the apostles' teaching, had daily fellowship with each other in unity, performed signs and wonders, sold their possessions to give away to the needy, were filled with gladness, and praised God daily.
Why the sudden change?
The promise of the Father was poured out on all flesh so that sons and daughters prophesy, young men see visions, and old men dream dreams.
The infilling of the Spirit of God from above resulted in a total transformation of these ordinary disciples into the body of Jesus on the earth.
In the same way, you can also experience the infilling of the Holy Spirit and be radically transformed to live a life on fire for the God who is calling you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Ask the Father of lights for the gift of the Holy Spirit and hunger and wait for him.
The Holy Spirit will come, and when he does, you will never be the same.
