The Gospel of Jesus Christ

I have nothing new to tell you.

I just want to echo the same message that the apostles preached.

1 Corinthians 15:3-8 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.

Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures.

Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God. He was born of a virgin (Mary) and began his ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit, healing and delivering all who were oppressed of the devil. He was delivered unto Pilate after he proclaimed himself the Christ, the Son of God and crucified as the King of the Jews. This he did for us, fulfilling the prophecies of Isaiah 53 that the Christ would bear our sins and diseases for us. Jesus was made to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (1 Corinthians 5:21).

Christ was buried and raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

Jesus was buried in the new tomb of Joseph of Arimathea and a great stone was rolled in front of the entrance with a guard of Roman soldiers securing it out front. On the third day, there was a great earthquake and an angel rolled away the stone at the entrance, declaring to the women who had come with Jesus from Galilee that Jesus has risen!

Christ appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve, then to more than 500 at one time, then to James, then to the apostles, and last of all, to Paul.

Luke 24:44-49 Then he said to them,“These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

Come Out: How to Navigate in the World as Strangers (Free Preview)

We are separated unto Christ, not arbitrarily, but in connection with the larger story of scripture. We are now part of the family of Abraham and therefore the heritage of the line of Abraham is now our heritage too! (Galatians) God’s purposes since the book of Genesis are now being fulfilled in us. Being a holy people means being a people of purpose. And according to Jesus, that purpose is declaring to the world around us that the Kingdom of God is at hand.

It is the Spirit of God in us that separates us from all other peoples. The apostle John teaches us that if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. Furthermore, we know we abide in him and he in us because he has given us of his Spirit. (1 John)

Speaking of Jesus Christ, John wrote, “He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John)

This adoption into the line of faith is made clear by Paul who declares we received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit within us bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Therefore, we are led by the Spirit, set our mind on the Spirit for life and peace and have a destiny to be conformed to the image of Jesus! (Romans)

The whole purpose of the entire drama of all human history which reached its climax in Jesus Christ was to purify you through his blood so that you could receive his Spirit by faith and be separated from the world to conform to his image. It all begins, climaxes and ends with Christ. The Holy Spirit within you makes you holy, and true holiness is found in the person of Jesus Christ.

Gospel Game: Discerning Truth from Deception

Instructions:

1. Print out cards below and set up 11 piles according to their card type.
  • Playing cards = open question, A or B, act and draw.
  • Truth or deception cards = testing, mission, calling, teaching, parables, salvation, power

2. Choose one playing card. Follow the directions, then place it in a discard pile.
  • Open question card: have each person in a clockwise direction try to guess the answer that is true for you. If no one guesses correctly, then the person who chose the open question card is successful.
  • A or B card: ask the person next to you (moving clockwise). If they are wrong, then the person who answered incorrectly asks the person next to them, and so on until someone guesses correctly. If no one guesses correctly, then the person who chose the A or B card is successful.
  • Act card: the person next to you (moving clockwise) tries to perform the action. If unsuccessful, then the next person tries, and so on until someone is successful. If no one is successful, then the person who chose the act card is successful.
  • Draw card: the person next to you (moving clockwise) draws the picture in 30 seconds or less. Everyone can guess except the person who chose the draw card and the person drawing the picture. If no one can guess correctly, decide together if the drawing was sufficient enough to guess. If the drawing was sufficient enough, then the person who drew the picture is successful. If the drawing is not sufficient enough, then the person who chose the draw card is successful.

3. The person who is successful can choose a truth or deception card (starting with “1- Testing”).

4. Either as an individual or as a group, decide if the card is a truth or a deception.
  • If it’s a deception, place it in a discard pile. You don't score any points.
  • If it’s a truth, keep it in front of your location. You score one point.
  • If you’re not sure if it’s a truth or deception, look up the scripture reference to clarify the correct answer. The Bible is truth in all cases.
  • Alternative: If the player discerns if it is a truth or deception, keep it in front of their location for one point regardless of whether it is a truth or deception.

5. The person next to the last person to choose a playing card goes next. Choose a playing card and follow the directions until someone is successful. Choose another truth or deception card and follow the directions in step 4.

6. If you already acquired a truth card from “1- Testing”, choose a card from “2- Mission”. Continue until you have a truth card from all 7 (moving in a successive order from 1 to 7).

7. Collect 7 truth cards in total to win (1 truth card from each pile).
