Come Out: How to Navigate in the World as Strangers (Free Preview)

We are separated unto Christ, not arbitrarily, but in connection with the larger story of scripture. We are now part of the family of Abraham and therefore the heritage of the line of Abraham is now our heritage too! (Galatians) God’s purposes since the book of Genesis are now being fulfilled in us. Being a holy people means being a people of purpose. And according to Jesus, that purpose is declaring to the world around us that the Kingdom of God is at hand.

It is the Spirit of God in us that separates us from all other peoples. The apostle John teaches us that if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. Furthermore, we know we abide in him and he in us because he has given us of his Spirit. (1 John)

Speaking of Jesus Christ, John wrote, “He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John)

This adoption into the line of faith is made clear by Paul who declares we received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit within us bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Therefore, we are led by the Spirit, set our mind on the Spirit for life and peace and have a destiny to be conformed to the image of Jesus! (Romans)

The whole purpose of the entire drama of all human history which reached its climax in Jesus Christ was to purify you through his blood so that you could receive his Spirit by faith and be separated from the world to conform to his image. It all begins, climaxes and ends with Christ. The Holy Spirit within you makes you holy, and true holiness is found in the person of Jesus Christ.
